Their Heroine

Title: Their Heroine
Fandom: Batman/Catwoman
Characters: Arizona, Catwoman, Cats
Rating: G/K
Warnings: None
Prompt: Universe-The Family
Word Count: 423
Summary:

She had never seen the woman sit so still as she had in this last half hour, nor had she ever before witnessed the doting and caring that came from the gentle hands that held life in their grasp from any one other than their mistress. She watched, knowing better than to make a sound or do anything else to give away her presence, as the clock ticked on. Selina had sat on the couch for hours now. She hadn't gone out; she hadn't even bothered to call Bruce to cancel their date, a first, as far as her young friend knew, for the beautiful thief who spent too many nights crying over Gotham's premiere playboy.

Cats mewed. Tails swished. A mouse was batted right between Arizona's feet. A tom yowled, then silenced at the glower from stern, emerald eyes that turned soft again the moment they looked back down at their target.

The Batlight lit up the night sky. Sirens wailed through their bad part of Gotham. Still, Selina didn't move, and neither did Arizona as she watched over her. A tiny head raised. Ears flicked back and forth as the siren drew further away. Both women held their breath and cussed the cops.

The head lowered again. Selina smiled; Arizona's heart melted once more. There was nothing, she thought, more beautiful than watching the infamous Catwoman caring for her cats. Still, they didn't speak. They didn't move. They barely breathed as the kitten continued to eat.

He'd been losing weight ever since Selina had brought him home, and although Arizona had tried her best, he had barely responded to her. Selina had picked him up when she'd came home this afternoon and hadn't moved from the couch with him ever since. She had coaxed him, held him, cuddled him, played with him, stroked him, purred to him, and so thoroughly loved him that Arizona had been reminded, yet again, that there was no way this courageous woman who had saved her life and the lives of every one else in this apartment deserved the title of villainess Gothamites gaze her.

"Mew." Both Arizona and Selina burst into wide grins as the tiny, ginger kitten again lifted his head and this time licked the last bit of food off of his teeny, furry chin. Arizona beamed but continued to keep her distance as Selina hugged the tyke close. She turned so they wouldn't see her tears and went to feeding the rest of the cats. Another of their family had been saved!
