She doesn't deserve this. That fact is never lost on Xena every time Gabrielle smiles at her. She doesn't deserve any of this. She doesn't deserve a friend as sweet as Gabrielle or a lover as beautiful and pure. She doesn't deserve the happiness she brings her or this second chance that life has handed her.

It doesn't matter what method of judgement might be used, rather it's zygomancy, the threads that Fates twine, or the law of the land itself. By neither God or man's rules does she deserve something as pure, sweet, rich, and wonderful as Gabrielle. But yet, she has it.

There isn't a day that goes by that she's not grateful for this second chance, not only because she's saving lives now instead of taking them but again, and most of all, for her partner. She used to never pray. She used to scoff at those who prayed and begged their god for mercy before her sword slew them. She used to tell them to utter all the prayers they wanted to their Gods for even if They listened, They couldn't save them from her wrath, which was really greed, and They didn't care any way.

She still wonders how much They care, if any of Them do. Her first reaction is still to go for her sword and chakram when most of Them show up, especially Ares who would have come closest to getting her old self to worship Him. Yet there is One she knows truly cares. There is One who has blessed her more than any one besides Gabrielle has ever loved her. There is One who cares for them both, who loves them, and has blessed them with the love they share.

And so, every morning, as the rising rays of the sun call Xena to awaken and she looks down at the little blonde snuggled into her side, the Warrior Princess whispers a prayer. She says a prayer of thanks to the Goddess of Love, to her friend who's given her so much and then proceeds to watch the most precious jewel any one could ever give her sleep until her loud snores become too much for the warrioress. Only then does she leave her to start their new day.

She bathes and catches breakfast usually at the same time, and by the time Gabrielle begins to awaken, Xena's already frying the fish and watching her with what she knows must be a goofy smile. Gabrielle used to ask her, "What? Do I have something on my face?" and start trying to clean herself, but she seems to have become accustomed to awakening to find Xena watching her.

These days, she only smiles and tells her to come closer, and the Warrior Princess, who once led multitudes of men in her own army, the Warrior Princess who has killed so many and could never deserve this life, the Warrior Princess who is beginning to want to settle down with the woman she loves and live a more peaceful life, one where she can watch her wherever she wants and for however long without any interruptions but who knows she can't for she still has retribution to make, obeys with gladness in her heart. She comes closer to her beloved, kisses her sweet lips, caresses her face and flesh, and thanks the Goddess of Love again for the miracle She's brought into her life, all while never saying the actual words where Gabby can hear them.

Gabrielle doesn't need Xena to speak, however, to tell her how she feels and how grateful she is. She feels it every time she touches her so gently and lovingly, almost reverently, and sees it every morning in her blue eyes as she awakes and at night as she drifts to sleep. She hears it in her heartbeat as her blonde head rests against her armored bosom. She knows she loves her as much as she loves her and knows that, despite Xena's firm beliefs, she does deserve everything good she can give her and so much more. Their eyes speak what their lips may never say while all the while both women hope and pray this Goddess-blessed miracle of their loving life together never ends. And Aphrodite smiles for She knows it never really will and these two truly are a match made in the best and happiest of Olympus.
