Regina sensed the tenseness of her pupil before she ever touched the woman. Her hands trailed the backs of her arms. "It get easier," she whispered as Snow's bow quivered. "It will get a little easier every time, I promise."
Snow's head shook slightly, but then she drew her bow and arrow back to the ready. "You promise me this will help me get my husband and daughter back?"
Beside them, Red shook her head. "This is wrong, Snow, and you know it. Charming wouldn't want this. Neither would Emma." And you have me. Why do you need her? Regina was corrupting her beloved, and all Red could do was watch as Snow took her first heart.
"There," Regina cooed, her hands cupping Snow's as she held the heart. "Now destroy it. Destroy him."
"This is wrong, Snow."
Regina shot a piercing glower at Red. "Shut up, wolf, or I'll have her take yours next."
Red's mouth flew open, but then she shut it. Could she? she wondered. Did she have so much control over Snow that she would literally take the heart of the woman she still claimed to love, when she wasn't bedding their enemy? Snow had Regina's scent all over her. It was so strong Red could barely stand to hold her at night, but hold her she did as she cried for her husband and child, as she confessed her constant worries that they couldn't save them, as she loved her to distract her from her other feelings.
But then she smiled. Regina was wrong. There was one thing Snow still hadn't given the Evil Queen and of which Red herself was in proud possession. "She would never do that," she said just a heartbeat before Snow returned the heart to her victim.
"Red's right. This is wrong. There has to be another way."
Regina scowled, but Red smiled before looking away as Snow turned rebuttal into flirtation. "Surely, with as powerful as you are, Regina, you know another way?"
There was another way. Regina wouldn't find it, but Red would and she'd be damned if she'd lose Snow along the way. She looked into the forest, thinking, scowling, and promising herself she would forever keep what was hers even after Charming was back in Snow's life. This time, she would keep her mate. She had Snow's heart, and she wasn't giving it up for anything!
