I stand alone at her grave. The others are gone. They won't come again. They've forgotten about her. They live their lives without her. I can not. I won't.
Looking back over what I used to call my life, I don't think I really started living until she came in it. She was so beautiful, her soul so alight with fire and passion and a kindness to which she'd never admit. She showed it, though, every time her friends needed her, every time the world needed her. That's what got her killed.
Standing here, I realize how dark the world is without her and know at last why she never managed to make her dream a reality. She was too bright a star for TV. She was too bright a star for this world to hold.
Everything is so dark without her, but then, suddenly, there's a light. I look up, tears in eyes I no longer have, knowing immediately it's her. She smiles at me, and the world is a beautiful place again. "Dennis," she asks, reaching for my hand, "are you ready?"
I don't hesitate. I take her offered hand immediately. I'd follow her anywhere, into Heaven or Hell, but I know where we're going. It's time. We let go of the world one more time together, and I know I'll never know darkness or loneliness again. My best friend is here, and this time, we're not leaving each other for anything again.
The End
