He looks slowly around at the forlorn faces and realizes, for the first time, just how important these people have become to him. Not just Willow -- they've always been the best of friends -- but Buffy, too, the old Watcher guy, and even Cordelia, or Queen Bitca as he used to call her behind her back. "When did this happen?" he wonders softly alound.
"What do you mean? You were there when it happened. You're the ones who dragged me into this whole Vampires killing people thingie!"
"No. Not this. Not yesterday's deaths or today's stakes. This." He gestures to them all. "When did we become more than a team?"
"I am so not teaming with you group of losers or any one else!" Cordelia snaps her backpack shut. "I'm going home," she announces, and Xander is just as glad when she flounces out for she is not really a part of that which he is thinking. He is left looking at the other three who really make up their connection. "When did we become a family?"
They give him no verbal answer, but as Buffy and Willow throw their arms around him and hug him tightly, Giles quietly smiles.
