Instant, uncalled magic thrums in his flesh as he glides his fingers over his new bride. She sleeps peacefully except for a muscle twitching every now and then on her face. He knows he should not intrude upon her privacy, but there is still so much he faces. He's still scared of losing her when he does at last tell her the truth, but her dreams might give him a hint as to rather or not she can find it within her heart to forgive him, not that he deserves her forgiveness not this time or any of the countless times she's granted him mercy before.
His fingers touch her flesh for just a brief moment, but that single second of contact is all he needs. Rumplestiltskin is swept away into Belle's dreams and finds him looking, through her blue, beautiful eyes, at the ever-cliche fork in the road. She is being offered two hands, and it is to him each belongs. On one side, he is dressed as he was when they shared their first wedding dance, quite possibly the most gallant he's ever been; on the other, he is dark. His veins can be seen, and he laughs cruelly. The magic has done its deed and almost eaten the last of his soul; only Belle remains to save him.
He knows she will take the first hand that is offered to her. After all, it is him, and he is almost untouched by magic there, using it only to please her. She'll never again have to sully herself with the darkness of his other side. But yet as surely as Rumplestiltskin is in his wife's decision, Belle is just as certain and, without hesitation, reaches out and takes both hands.
"I want you, Rumplestiltskin. I love you, darkness and light, good and bad, everything you are." Rumplestiltskin returns to the conscious world as her words echo through him. "And everything I am is yours."
He smiles down at her sleeping face, still awed by her quick and doubtless decision. He strokes her skin again, smoothing the furling, brown hair around her lovely face, but this time does not even think to pry. He has all the answers he needs and realizes, too, that he should have already known them. He doesn't yet have the courage to tell her, but he will and she will stand by him as she always has before.
He leans down and kisses her forehead, her words still echoing inside his heart and soul. She loves him, all that he is. She's shown him that time and time again. There is great power in magic, but the greatest power, as he has known now for centuries, is that of True Love. He should stop doubting his soul mate, his own True Love. He should believe in her power to save him, but still it remains so hard to do, and even harder to tell her he's failed her again.
He pulls back, silently tightening his resolve. He will tell her -- she will forgive him --, but not this morning. It's a beautiful day outside; he's created another bookcase full of brand new books for her in their library. There's plenty for her to enjoy this day. He will not ruin it for her, and he aches to bask in the glow of her love and joy. He doesn't want to make her sad, as he knows he will, but in time, he'll tell her. In time, he'll tell her everything, and she will understand and accept him.
But for now . . . He smiles. A flick of his wrist sends fresh, red rose petals fluttering across the bed. A second flick creates a silver tray, complete with a teapot and their special cup. A third, and breakfast is ready, and steaming hot, upon the tray. "Mrs. Gold, it's time to wake up," he calls to her, smiling. He wants just one more day in paradise before he tells her, but then, Rumple thinks to himself with a smile that warms even his deepest insides, every day with his Belle is another day in paradise as long as she loves him, and she always will.
