Henry tried not to gawk as another item was added to his already nearly overflowing bag. "A whole candy bar?!" he asked in disbelief. "For me?!"

"Why, yes, yes, of course," Archie replied, trying not to blush as he pushed his glasses further back up onto his nose. "It's the least I can do, Henry, and it's my pleasure."

"Trick or treat!"

The fact that Jiminy Cricket quickly grabbed his regular candy bowl and passed out handfuls of miniature candy bars was not lost on Henry. He marveled at the change for just a moment before turning and dashing down the steps. This might be his last Halloween trick or treating, but it was definitely proving to also be his most profitable.

He had long ago grown accustomed to the other townspeople, both adults and children, treating him differently because his mother was the Mayor. Kids his own age had always driven to avoid him, and that had only increased when the curse was lifted and they all remembered that his mother was not just the mayor but also the Evil Queen. The adults hadn't been much better, but at least at Halloween time, they had been quick to fill his bag or pumpkin with their best candy. Henry had known it was because his mother was waiting for him at the end of the lane, and he'd tried not to care.

He had tried, but it had always bothered him. Still, there had been a few, Archie and Granny both chief amongst them, who had never treated him differently because of his mother. Archie had just given him a King size of his favorite candy bar, while earlier at Granny's, he'd been treated to a free slice of pie and ice cream. Henry knew their favoritism didn't come because of who his mother was but rather who his other mother and her parents. He smiled as he jostled down the road. He knew he shouldn't be enjoying this, but despite everything, he was still a kid, this was his last Halloween, and what child in their right mind wouldn't be thrilled to receive the greatest candy haul of the century?

He actually laughed as he ran to the next house, but suddenly, he ran right into something. He tottered back and looked up, half expecting to see a Giant or an Ogre. The thing with which he'd collided was no magical being but only the muscular chest of the boy who, despite not being Henry's age, was still in his class. He also happened to be the only kid in the whole school, besides his friend, Grace, who had never once treated Henry differently because of his parentage.

Henry gulped, his grip tightening automatically on his trick or treat bag. He didn't want to surrender his haul not because he was getting a little old for trick or treating or because people had been extra generous because of his family and most certainly not because of the local bully. He didn't know who Freddie had been back in the Enchanted Forest, but he was quite certain he wouldn't have liked him any better then than he did now.

"Looks like you been doing pretty well for yourself, kid."

"Y-Yes."

"Chris and Carl," Freddie added, indicating the two equally muscular boys behind him, "were just saying what a shame it is that we can't go trick or treating any more. Don't you think that's a shame?"

Henry felt his wood sword bump against his leg as he uncomfortably took a step back. "I-I guess. This is my last year."

"Inn't that a shame, too? Say, you wouldn't . . . " Freddie suddenly stopped speaking. His eyes grew large and darted about in his head. His friends seemed to almost be imitating his movements behind him.

Henry was quite curious as to what they could be looking at to bring such a reaction, but he didn't dare turn his back on any of the three of them. "I wouldn't what?" he asked cautiously.

"Nothing. Nothing at all. We weren't saying anything were we, boys?"

"Nope."

"Nada."

"Not a thing."

The three bullies turned and beat a quick retreat down the next path. Frowning, Henry turned but saw nothing suspicious behind him. "Okay, Mom. You can come out of hiding." He waited expectantly, but nothing happened.

As he continued to wait, a shadow scurried across the street. Henry shivered, remembering Pan and the loss of his own body and almost soul. He turned back around and hurried down the street, reminding himself that, with a family like his, there was nothing of which for him to ever be afraid, except for maybe losing one of his mothers.

Emma let out a breath of relief.

"Do you think he saw us?" Mary Margaret asked anxiously as Emma dropped the blinds.

"Not a chance, luv."

Emma waggled her brow at Hook, who just smiled and winked back at her. "Figure o' speech, darling. You know you're my real luv."

"Mmm hmm." She made a face, but the look the couple exchanged quickly had her father looking away and guiding their party to a booth where apple pie and ice cream awaited all.

Meanwhile, across the street, in a certain, closed shop, Belle frowned at her husband. "What are you doing?"

Rumplestiltskin also closed his blind from where he'd looked out of it after darting into his shop just before Henry had turned around. He hadn't been the only one to be watching over the boy, but he was the one who should know better than to waste time on a child who was supposed to be his undoing. "Nothing, dearie."

"Right."

"Nothing to concern yourself with at least." He smiled at her, took her hand in his, and kissed the back of her delicate hand. Henry was not going to be his undoing, he reminded himself. If any one was, it would be he himself and his ineptitude to be truthful with his own True Love. Pushing those thoughts aside for the night, he drew his wife into his arms and kissed her while music began to play.

Alone in the street, the shadow actually smiled. It followed the boy at a distance until he was done with his journey, then quickly returned to the Queen who had sent it. Regina's dark lips curved into a smile. Her son had had fun tonight, and for now, that was enough.
