Sometimes, she dreams she is a Gorgon with her long, blonde hair, of which she is so proud, being a messy, rat's ness of miniature vipers. She sees face, both old and new, screaming in terror before they are transformed. Auggie thinks she's cool until one of her snakes locks eyes with him; then, her baby boy, like all the others before, turns to stone. The worst is when her precious daughter falls victim, looking at her only after Maya, to whose hand she clings, has been turned to stone.

It is always after Riley that the hero finally appears in Topanga's dreams. He's wearing armor, but instead of a sword, he carries the pen Mister Feeny gave him on his first day of teaching. She's seen a movie before where a pen becomes a sword, but this is very different. This pen is enchanted from the use of the first teacher who taught them both so much and from the belief of the second teacher who wields it, but even more powerful is the love he wields.

Topanga never quite understands how he manages to do it, but Cory doesn't look at any of her snakes. He sees her, but he doesn't turn to stone. He seems the heart within the woman, as always he has, as he dives forward, swiping his pen-sword. He doesn't cut her. He doesn't even cut her snakes. He would never hurt her, and this Topanga knows to be one of the few truths in their world that absolutely will never change.

When he reaches her, he slides his pen-sword back into his pocket so that his hands are free, and then he wraps himself around her. He holds her until even her snapping, twisting snakes are forced to be still. Then, he tells her simply, "Honey, there's no need for this. You're the most beautiful woman to be, regardless of rather you have your hair, your snakes, or you're bald. I love you."

It is those words that melt the monster within her every time. She relaxes in his arms, her fight over, and when she wakes, it is always to his kiss. Just like Snow White and every other Princess in the fairy tales she read as a child, it is her hero's kiss that frees her. Her Prince saves her. Her eyelids flutter, and her eyes open wider as she gazes up into his. He has the most beautiful eyes she's ever seen, even more beautiful than their daughter's on the day she gave birth to Riley.

Topanga cups his face now. She runs one hand up into his dark, curly hair and relishes the way he tingles all over and grins goofily at her simple touch. "Medusa nightmare again?" he asks to which she nods quietly. "Honey, I've already told you. You're no Medusa. You're the most beautiful woman in all the world."

"So was she, before she was cursed," she reminds him again just so that she can get to hear what's next.

"I know you, Topanga. That woman in mythology was as ugly on the inside as she was beautiful on the outside, but you're even more beautiful inside. You're gorgeous, honey."

She grins. "I know," she admits, giving in to her vanity, "but tell me again?" She strokes his cheek.

He's eager to comply. "You're the most gorgeous woman in the whole world, and I'm lucky to have you as my wife. I love you," he says and leans forward and kisses her.

I'm lucky to have you as my husband, she thinks but doesn't say it aloud for her mouth is far too busy kissing him back passionately to waste time with words. Instead, it is with her actions that she shows him how much she knows she's lucky to have his ring on her finger and his name on hers for the rest of her life. After all, she may be the most gorgeous girl, but he is the most handsome, sweetest, kindest, and simply most wonderful man in all the world. Her beauty may constantly have him fighting off her wouldbe suitors, like Minkus back in school, and the world might not understand what she sees in him, but she knows that Cory's pure, beautiful innocence could easily destroy a thousand Gorgons. It's what keeps her always coming back to him, always believing in their True Love no matter the odds and problems the world throws at them, and always loving him more each and every day.

"I love you," she whispers against his lips, and when he answers her in kind, she knows again that he will always love her just as she will always love him. She has no further need of fairy tales, of Princesses, monsters, or Knights, because she's got her real life fairy tale, and Prince, right here in her arms. She wastes no time in showing him that either before their children wake up on this blessed, Sunday morn.

The End
