"And you say there's no magic in your world," Killian scoffs.
"There isn't," Emma insists, smiling, "except for imagination, and I guess maybe there's too little of that in our modern world. If I hadn't given up Henry and he hadn't grown up here believing in fantasy . . . " She trails off as a breeze flutters her long, blonde hair.
He notes the despondent look on her face and brings her in closer against him, wrapping his arms more securely around her waist. "But he did," he says, voice firm and reassuring. His thumb traces her jawline. She lifts her mouth, and he kisses her long and deep. The press of his lips against hers eases her concerns over what might have been, but it isn't long before he lifts his mouth. "But, still," he adds, returning to their original conversation with a grin, "a rabbit as tall as a man? My crew could've ate off of that for weeks!"
She flashes him a smile that warms his heart. "I guess it's a good thing, then, that the Easter Bunny doesn't really exist."
"Who knows, luv? Maybe he does. We ever get back to the Enchanted Forest, we'll have to hunt for him."
She glowers at him. "You're not going to kill a character who's loved by children everywhere."
"Kids actually believe in him, aye?"
She nods. "Some do. Not as many as should, I suppose." Too many children in her time had to grow up hard and fast. They lost their believes in make believe far too quickly, but now that she's grown and living in a world where she is Snow White and Prince Charming's daughter and dating Captain Hook, she has to wonder if maybe it would have helped her to have believed in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus longer than she had. It would have been nice, she thinks, to have been able to have had a childhood where she could have believed as her son had had, and she's thankful he had that, the Evil Queen for an adopted mother or no. Besides, Regina isn't all bad, especially not any more.
Killian's hand on her cheek is as light as a feather but draws her attention out of her thoughts. "There ye go, luv, wondering into dangerous territory again. You said this is supposed to be fun."
"It is." Emma blushes lightly. "You're right," she admits, looking down at his leather jacket. "I'm thinking way too much about what might have been. What's important is what is."
He pulls her firmly against him, reminding her again of what she does to him. Emma beams up at him. His thumb brushes over her upturned lips. "You're right, luv," he says, voice strong and determined. "Our pasts don't matter. What matters is now, is us, is this." His lips are lowering over hers again when the sound of people coming breaks them apart.
"We have them," Grumpy calls.
Regina scowls. "You're sure the children are going to like this?"
"Yes," Emma speaks without hesitation.
Regina's glare lightens, and for a moment, Emma can see the woman who is trying so hard to be a good, normal mother. "It's just . . . It seems so ridiculous."
"Aye, that it does," Killian agrees. He's removed his arms from around Emma, but he still keeps one hand possessively and tenderly in the crook of her arm. "Especially a giant rabbit -- "
Emma looks at him. "Henry will love it. So will Grace, Pinocchio, and the other children."
"Then what are we waiting for?" Snow asks.
Hook steps aside and bows, gesturing them to go ahead of him. "My ship awaits, ladies . . . " At Grumpy's snort, he adds, " . . . and Dw -- " He notes Charming and changes his last word, " . . . gentlemen."
Emma and Hook are the last to board his ship. He still holds to her arm as she looks around them. He watches her carefully, seeing the excitement in her eyes of the inner child she claims not to have. "They're going to love this," she says again eagerly.
"Then let's get these eggs hid, luv, 'fore they wake up." She grins and grabs a basket.
"Thank you for doing this," she adds, looking back up at him and beaming joyously.
"Anything for you, luv," he replies, softly stroking her hair.
Grumpy almost hits him in the chest with another basket. He takes it, and Emma watches for a moment as he begins to choose hiding places. Her heart is full of love and warmth, and the thoughts of what might have been are no more. She's blessed, she knows. She's truly charmed. She has not only a magical family but a lover, as well, and no matter what the once gruff Captain Hook says, she knows he's looking almost as eagerly to the children's delight over their egg hunt on his ship as she is. He's not just doing this for her. He's doing it for Henry and the other kids, too, and she loves him all the more for it.
Regina almost bumps into her, but there's no tension between them as once there was. "Robin, Gepetto, and Granny are set to bring the kids when everybody's awake?" Emma asks her.
"Yes," the former Evil Queen answers, and this time, she can not hide her smile. The sails flap in the early morning wind. Regina swipes a loose strand of ebony hair out of her face as she looks at Emma. "They're really going to love this, aren't they?" she asks, finally getting into the spirit of things as is every one around them.
"Oh, yeah," Emma answers without hesitation. She beams. "We all are."
