Amazed, Claire watched her stepmother. She'd thought her first shot had been luck, but Gloria had pinged every target right in their heart. "Wow."

Gloria heard her murmur and grinned. "This is good, isn't it?"

"Yeah, I just . . . I always heard Latinas were good shots, but I didn't think . . . "

"You think I'm just a pretty face."

"I didn't say that."

"It's okay." Gloria smiled. "I get that cliche a lot. It doesn't bother me. But this, you and me, being here now, me helping you, this is good."

"Yeah," Claire agreed. Gloria helped her position for her next shot. "Yeah, it is."
