He's tried to make this entire journey about her. She is the one who still has doubts about their relationship, after all, and it is her parents who they are here to reunite. She is the one destined to be on this trip; he just happens to be lucky enough to be with her. That in and of itself is a blessing, but still, there's so much about this night which he can not ignore.
He's never told any one, but he used to dream of attending balls when he was a child. He dreamed of being a Pirate and a soldier, too, and a good many other things, but one of the few he's never gotten to cross off of that list is an actual ball with a Princess' hand is his. Emma has always been beautiful, but she's never looked more radiant that she does tonight in a stolen dress and jewels.
She truly is breathtaking. There isn't a guy here tonight who hasn't eyed his woman, but it is he with whom she has chosen to dance. He knows it's not just because of their cover. She could have easily deigned to dance a dance or two with some one else, even saying she was doing so so as to not arouse suspicion, but it is to his side she has clung as loyally as he's followed her throughout all of this time traveling stuff.
There's a lot Killian still does not know or understand about her world, but one of the songs he's caught pieces of on the thing she calls a radio is playing through his mind tonight. You'd be like Heaven to touch. I want to hold you so much. She does feel like Heaven in his arms, and he's lucky to be the one who does get to hold her and dance with her and kiss her . . .
He spent so many years hunting for treasure, but now, at last, he has the greatest treasure he could ever possess. He has her, and he hopes to soon completely win over her well guarded her heart. He hopes to one day be able to call her his in all the ways, to put a ring on her finger, and claim her forever as his True Love. Those dreams and more spin through his mind as he spins her on the dance floor.
She's confessed to him that she's always wondered what it would be like to get to live the life of a Princess. She has every right to that life, but unlike her, he has no claim to royalty. Yet he's still often wondered what it would have been like to have been born in the lap of luxury, to be a Prince with Princesses and all the prettiest women in the realms at his beck and call. She is the only woman he wants, but nonetheless, while Emma's living her dream tonight, so, too, is he.
He can almost forget their mission. He can almost forget the very real danger of Emma's parents never getting together and, thereby, never creating her. He can almost forget that she still has doubts about their love, that she still doesn't trust him completely. He can almost forget that this isn't their time or their place, that they aren't really married royalty dancing at a ball to which they were invited. He can almost forget everything but the way Emma is looking at him right now, her beautiful, blue eyes sparkling with adoration, with love . . .
And he certainly does dream, and believe for right now in this moment, that all that love she feels is for him alone. He certainly is lucky. He does have the best treasure ever. And tonight . . . Tonight, he's living his dream as Emma pretends to love only him forever -- in his dream, at least.
