He watches his boy as he always has, from his very birth, and his heart aches, his wings drooping, with the realization that Dean thinks he doesn't deserve his help. Of all the humans Castiel has observed over the centuries, Dean Winchester most certainly does both need and deserve his help. His wings and arms ache with the need to hold him, but he knows he can not simply keep reaching out to him just yet.

He has to take his time. He has to build his trust, and maybe one day, Dean will come to realize that Castiel is not his enemy, that he is here to help him, not to hurt, never, ever to hurt him. Maybe, Cas dares hope in the shadows of Heaven, Dean might even come to realize that he loves him and not hate him for it.

Crowley watches every move they make, growling on his throne. His black fingernails are nubs from where they've been clutching the arms of his throne so tightly. This isn't the way it was supposed to be.

A Demon speaks. With a flick of his wrist, the creature is gone, screaming. Crowley will not have any one deter him from his concentration, but his minions may think what they will.

They may watch him watching Dean. They may acknowledge that he released him. They may be talk and whisper and even giggle that their King has fallen to a mere human. But if even one of them touches Dean without permission, Crowley will slaughter them with but a thought. He's made it clear that the human is his. Now if he can only make the human understand that, and make Dean love him, too.

They're fighting back to back, covered with blood and sweat, some of it theirs, most of it their opponents'. Demons and other things are screaming, but Dean's elbow knocks Sammy's. Sam looks at his brother, and for just a second, as their eyes lock, he doesn't care they're fighting their way through Hell again. He doesn't care that winning seems impossible. He doesn't care that they're probably going to die slow, excruciatingly painful deaths. He cares only that he's with Dean, and as long as he's got his brother, he knows everything will be okay.

"They're going to be okay, John."

"How can you be so sure, Mary? They're in freaking Hell, for Christ's sake!"

She smiles, as kind as ever and as wise. "Not for long. Trust me, John. A mother knows. Our boys have a lot of love, especially Dean. They're going to be just fine." She beams as she leans in closer to her husband and seals her promise to her boys' father with a kiss.
