She edges into her apartment on quiet and careful feet. Centuries of enacting vengeance as a Demoness have taught her both not to fear the dark and to be wary when things are not as they should be. Things certainly are not as they should be in this moment. She flicks the switch several more times, but still, the light doesn't come on. "Xander?" she calls.

She saw his car. She knows he's home. She edges further into their abode and finally sees a small flicker of candlelight. She follows it into their bedroom. The door shuts behind her. She turns swiftly. There's no reason for a Demoness to fear the dark, but she doesn't have half the strength she did before she sacrificed that part of herself to be with her mortal lover.

Strong, familiar hands catch her slim shoulders and bring her up against a muscular chest whose every inch she knows well. "Mmm," she murmurs, tracing her fiance's abs with her fingertip. "Sneak attack. I like." She leans up to kiss him.

Xander's lips meet hers readily. They embrace, and as their kiss deepens, tongues sliding against each other in a rhythm Anya knows is as old as the stars but yet seems new every time with this lover of hers, her arms wrap around her mind. Her hands massage his lower back. She knows he's always hurting there after a hard day of construction, but as she reaches lower, she stills suddenly, her hands coming up with fluff.

She breaks their kiss and whispers in surprise, "X-Xander?"

"Easy, baby," he soothes. "It's okay. It's me."

"Why in the Hell do you have a bunny tail?"

His smile is easy, and she knows he's not laughing at her. "It's Easter, babe. I thought it was time you got over that fear."

"Xander, I have every reason to fear those vile, fluffy creatures, and so do you! I've seen them bite off a man's -- "

"I know you do." His voice is gentle, and she wonders how akin the tone he's using on her now is the way the Angels talk down lions. "But you don't have to fear all bunnies, Anya."

He steps closer to her, and in the light of the candle's flame, she sees his head and shudders openly. "Get those things off of you!"

"Baby, it's just plastic, cotton, and velcro. Nothing for a mighty Demoness," his eyes twinkle at her, "to fear."

"I'm not a mighty Demoness any more." The words escape her before she can stop them. The truth hangs between them. There was so much more she could do as a Demoness, so much more she could give him, so much more she could do for herself. But she gave it all up to be with him. She became mortal to be with him.

His hands catch hers. "I know," he says solemnly, "and I think every day about how lucky I am that you chose to give that up for me. I know I'm not worth it."

"Xander -- " she breathes his name, but she has no words to tell him how touched she is that, after all this time, he still believes himself unworthy of her love. She knows he has his flaws -- all guys do --, but he's one of the best men she's ever known. In all her centuries, she's never truly loved another except for her first, and that was a horrible mistake.

She's kissing him again almost before she knows it. There's so much more she can say with a kiss than she can not say with actual words coming from her lips. With her kiss, she tells him she does find him worthy. With her kiss, she thanks him for all he does for her, and for their small part of this vast world that he and his friends are constantly fighting to save. With her kiss, she tells him again and again that she loves him.

And as each kiss lingers longer, she forgets a little more. She forgets about the atrocious bunny ears topping her lover's dark head. She forgets about the cotton tail that chilled her blood like ice when her fingers first felt it. She forgets that she doesn't have the power that she wielded as a Vengeance Demoness. She forgets she's a powerless human now, because in Xander's arms, she feels again like she's got all the power in the world.

Xander's tongue swoops into her mouth, and she meets him in perfect harmony. Their clothes drop to the floor as they blunder blindly backwards toward their bed, both knowing that tonight is going to be another night they don't actually make it to bed. She forgets about his costume until her fingers grasp his rear and, in so doing, grasp his tail again.

But by this time, he's inside of her. He's filling her again and again. He's making her blood sing his name, making her insides scream his name until it breaks from her lips. And when she catches his tail in her fingers this time, she doesn't care. She squeezes it along with his butt, and when Xander calls out, "Happy Easter, Anya," she knows again every day with her man, rabbit affiliated or not, will be a happy one.
