Gold has always been her color. Genuine gold jewelry and diamonds have always been her favorite toys. Chains of gold hang around her neck and dangle on her dainty wrists, adding to the shimmer she already puts in this world. Every one stares at her wherever she walks, and Cleo knows it's not just because of her accessories.
But sometimes, sometimes, even if she'll never say a word of it aloud, she wonders. Her daddy gives her older sister her way and neglects Cleo. Deuce eyes a new girl at school. The men in her life hurt her, wondering just how much she really shines.
She never has far to go to find her answer, though. She only has to turn to her best friend and see the gold in Clawdeen's eyes. The wolf is almost as beautiful as she is. When she looks at her as she's doing now, she can feel the primal energy radiating between them and so much more. The gold in Clawdeen's eyes shines with delight because Cleo's looking at her, and Cleo knows again: The men in this world are idiots. All will bow before her, after all, for she truly is their Queen.
