The cool breeze floating in from the bay stirs Faith back to consciousness. Her dark eyes blink open in the night. She looks around at the shadows in the unfamiliar room, barely remembering checking into the hotel last night. Yesterday seems like nothing but a long string of battles, but last night . . . She smirks. She's not usually one for romance, but last night was pure magic.
She looks down at the beautiful woman who has proven her ability time and again to hold her own against Faith or all the hordes from Hell. The smile curving Buffy's lips makes Faith wonder, with a passing thought, what the other Slayer's dreaming about. Whatever it is, she looks genuinely happy.
And so is she, Faith realizes, sitting up straighter at the thought. She's happy, and . . . And for the first time in her life, she's come awake after sex and is in no hurry to leave. She doesn't want to leave this part of her sleeping beside her not tonight or any night.
"Hrm . . . " Buffy mumbles, not opening her eyes. "You like watching me sleep?"
"Yeah," Faith answers with surprising honesty, "I do." She slips back down into their bed, her arms curling around Buffy's lithe shoulders. "But I like waking you back up for another round better." Yet, when she kisses her lips this time, it's with a more tender embrace, an embrace that has Buffy's eyes opening and far more awake and alert than their normal passion.
"Faith?"
"Sh, B," Faith murmurs against her lips. "Don't ruin it." She'd smirk at her if she wasn't so busy grabbing her lips again with her own. Buffy moans softly, giving in without a fight, and Faith knows she's finally got the magic, the union, and the family she's been wanting all this time with this girl who's always been the better half of her.
