Dorothy watched the swirling, white clouds chasing across the blue, Kansas sky. Her mind was as scattered as the clouds. She couldn't help constantly thinking on the unique man she'd known with the most absent brain and kindest heart of all.
"Ah, Scarecrow," she whispered though he couldn't and, she feared, might never be able to hear her again. She'd been willing to give anything to get back to her home, but she'd been so blinded with missing her family that she'd not realized she was already home.
Toto yipped. She hugged him as they watched an especially large cloud pass over head. He'd hoped it was a balloon, but it was just another cloud. "I know; I miss them, too." She blinked the tears out of her eyes. "But we'll get back there one day. We'll get back to Over the Rainbow." She prayed she was right and started to sing before her tears could overtake her.
A lifetime away, a King heard the most beautiful voice he'd ever heard sing again in his straw head and wiped at his tears. One day, he vowed, he would bring her home; this time, she'd be ready to join him forever.
