Inez stared at the red liquid swirling in the gold goblet. "No," she gasped, her throat raw and aching. "No, I can't!"
He sighed and hung his head. "Ah'm sorry. Ah should not have brought you into this nightmare." He fought tears as he moved away.
Spanish spilled from Inez's lips. She rose and followed the Master of her heart. He turned just as her weakened body collapsed and caught her. "You should not be up."
"It's not a nightmare," she translated her declaration. "It's a dream come true to be here with you again, mi amor!" Her fingers brushed his as she took the goblet. She downed the blood in a single gulp, then slumped against him. He had just turned her earlier that day; she was still so weak that the smallest task drained all her strength.
Still she would make him understand. "I remember everything now." Ezra carried her back to bed. "I never told you then, but I always loved you. I always will love you, Vampires or humans, and I will be with you now forever!" She concluded her vow with a kiss of eternal love that, despite her weakness, melted them to the core.
