It's his turn at watch. He walks amongst his six, sleeping comrades, his gun ready. In these quiet hours pierced only by the occasional owl's hoot or coyote's lonely howl, JD thinks back to when he first came here. He'd had such high hopes of becoming a gunslinger but had soon learned that life wasn't all that grand. He had, however, been granted the realization of another dream he'd not even dared to hope was possible with his mother's passing. He had a family! JD watched them now as they slept, vowing to never let anything happen to them again!
The End
