She released a weary sigh as she at last opened the door to her home for the evening and walked into her family's abode. She shut it behind her and just leaned against the familiar wood for a moment with her eyes closed. Phoebe had told her that Samhain, as their kind was to call the holiday, also marked the ending of their old year with November One being the start of their new year. She certainly hoped that the rest of the year would not be like that of it which she had experienced so far. They'd had to save the world again that night, after stopping a Demon cult earlier that evening, and since midnight alone, she'd served several hundred drinks.

Piper wanted to just sink to the floor and sit there for a while, but she knew, if she did, she would be disturbed would Prue and Phoebe finally got home from their dates. A wistful smile crossed her lips. It had been a hard night, but at least her boyfriend had been there right beside her the entire time, constantly helping wherever he saw the opportunity to do so. Her smile grew as she thought of Cole. He always put her first and tried his best to make things easier for her.

Her brow furrowed; her brown eyes opened. He should have greeted her by now. He normally would have taken her coat and purse the moment she got home and shimmered her either to dinner, bed, or the bath tub. "Hello?" Her own voice echoed through the lonely Manor. Frowning, Piper peeled off the door and started to go in search of her love.

The moment she moved, however, was when some force entered behind her, grabbed her hands, and took her out of the Manor. The hot darkness of Hell whizzed pass for a moment, and then she was alone again in a darkened field. Her frown deepened. Something wasn't right. She should be scared and angry, but all she felt was the latter. Maybe she was just too tired to be reasonable.

"Hello? Who's out there?" she demanded. "Where are we? What's the meaning of this? If you think you can kidnap a Charmed One, buster, and live to gloat, I've got news for you!" But no sound answered her except for a low breeze whistling throughout some kind of stalks lining the field.

Piper stepped forward, and a light sprung to life five inches away from her booted foot. She looked down at it. Her puzzlement grew at what she found: a jack o'lantern without a face but with the single word, "Welcome," carved into its shell. She stepped again. Another light sprung into being. This one, too, was from a candle in a jack o'lantern, but "Happy" was carved into this pumpkin.

She continued to walk and found another lantern with every few steps. The next pumpkin had the word "Samhain", and then there were pumpkins with a Witch, bat, pentagram, and triquetra carved into them. A basic jack o'lantern with a happy smile marked what she thought was the end of the trail as the stalks on either side suddenly stopped, but when she stepped out from amongst them, she found that although the stalks did not continue, the jack o'lanterns did.

There was a pumpkin with entwining flowers marked upon it, then one with clasping hands, one with a star, and finally one with a heart. It was as she spied the one with the large heart carved into its shell that the moon moved from behind a cloud and fully lit the field. Piper realized, with a started gasp, that she was no longer walking on the ground. She was walking on sprinkled rose petals! She beamed, finally unraveling the mystery as what it was.

"Cole," she whispered, her heart jumping and her exhaustion forgotten. The rising breeze tugged at her long, black hair, but she didn't notice. She was too busy following the rose petals. She raced over them, but her eyes darted faster over them and found Cole first. He stood in the middle of the opening in the field, his hands stretched out toward her and his eyes and mouth smiling. Beneath his feet was the checkered blanket they usually used for picnics. Behind him was their basket, but all around the blanket upon which he stood was smiling jack o'lanterns to light the way.

"Cole!" She laughed as she ran into his arms, her eyes shining and her mind and heart dazzling. Only he would think of such a romantic getaway, and with such a twist! He caught her as she rushed into his arms and held her close against his strong chest. In the quiet of the night, where not even a owl hooted, she could feel the pulsating beat of his heart beneath her hand. She clung tightly to him for a moment.

He stroked her hair, reveling in the simple joys of making her happy, holding her, and loving her. "Happy Halloween, Piper!"

She beamed at him as she leaned up to him. Her left foot raised up behind her as heroines' so often did in the movies when they kissed their true loves, but she didn't notice. All she knew in that moment was that she loved him, he loved her, and every Halloween spent with him, no matter what else had to be done, was going to be a truly joyous holiday.

Her hands clasped behind his neck. She shook her head slightly in amazement as she gazed up at him. He was wearing horns but also wings that night. "You devil, you," she teased. "You really had me going there for a moment!"

His lips drew down into a playful pout. "Only for a moment?" he asked.

She grinned. "Only for a moment with the curiosity and anger," she admitted, "but you keep me going, Cole Turner."

"I love you, Piper Halliwell!" he declared, angling down for her mouth.

"I love you too, Cole Turner!" she responded and pressed her lips to his. Love, passion, and heat swept through them both, and Piper had one more thought before she happily gave in to all the emotions he evoked in her. Every Halloween with him -- every day, and night, -- spent loving him was going to be a truly magical experience indeed!
