Our Babies: Our Eldest

King Jackeesy was another who was thrown out as a baby, despite being so beautiful and sweet. He was so small that his daddy Drew often carried him around in his pocket!
Jackeesy is our King not because he's the eldest this time, but because he was the eldest in his prior life. He was born in 1988 then, and the title, especially with his regal baring, just sort of carried over and stuck. He is surely a King. :-)
Jackeesy loves human food. His favorite is bacon, but he also loves just plain biscuits without butter or anything.

Sammo Witch is our eldest boy but has no interest in the King title. He much prefers to remain a Duke and imagine himself as his hero, Salem Saberhagen. He was another who was thrown out when he was a baby, but his is a very special story.
My love, Drew, was headed home from work down a busy interstate when she came across where a mother cat and her kittens had been thrown out in a box. Although the poor babies were already dead, she stopped on the side of the road and got the mother's and babies' bodies out of the road. When she went back for the box, she found one, tiny baby still alive, huddled in the very back of the box. Sammy's eyes were not even open yet! We bottle fed him and have watched him grow from being about half a hand to the handsome Duke he is now!

When we rescued Simba, we did the calculations for his age and determined his birthday to be Valentine's Day! True to his birthdate, Simba is a real sweetheart!
The poor dear does have an awful allergy for cats, though: He's allergic to fleas! His routine shots, however, tend to keep that problem down. He's even sweet when we have to take him to the doctor, but he's always ready to go back home, walking into his kitty carrier as soon as he's released!

Bernadine is strictly Dad's cat. She does whatever it takes to get to him and keeps most of the other cats away from him. Her nickname is Houdini, because she has the knack to get in and out of doors as needed to follow her "man".

Hedwig was already grown when we rescued him from a gas station, so we have no idea what his real birthdate is or how old he truly is. He was so timid when we first got home that we thought he was already neutered. There were no signs at all to make us think otherwise, and as he was healthy, we delayed taking him to the vet -- and thus ended up with our cherished Tiger and Hansel. Hedwig has since become a grandfather.
He's still timid and easily spooked, but in his better moments, he loves a good belly rub. On the other paw, he's lately taking to fighting Drew over his pillow.
