It took all her strength to pull out the small box. When she flipped it open, the ring still shone as brightly as it ever had or, at least, it seemed to to her old eyes. Her weary lips curved up into a smile that couldn't hide her exhaustion.
She thought of her friends and especially him as she lifted the ring carefully from its box. Her fingertip softly stroked the heart and clasped hands. That was all so long ago, but now finally, it was time. She slipped the ring onto her finger and slipped out of this world.
