A loud pounding reverberates all around her, underneath her feet, throughout gray world. Her body trembles with the sound, but still, she goes on until she can go no further for the hole before her. Angel's waiting for her across the chasm, but he's fading away.
The same scream she hears in her dreams every night makes her look down; she finds the hole isn't simply Sunnydale's crater. Spike is there, dying, saving the world, saving her. The pounding is her heartbeat, and she knows she'll never be whole and will always be waiting not for Angel but for Spike.
