The breeze ruffles his hair as he feels her approach. He turns to watch her, his breath catching in his throat as it always does when he sees her beauty. He waits for her with open arms, and she glides effortlessly into them. There isn't a cloud in the sky today. It's a beautiful day, perfect for everything he's denied himself for so long, perfect for young love and for not so young love.
His arms wrap around her; hers hold to him. They tangle in their embrace. She leans up on her bare tip toes in the sand and presses her lips to his. He always likes when she initiates their kissing, because it reminds him that he's not just a dirty, old man and that she truly wants this, truly wants him, and has chosen him above all others. Spike and Angel lurk in the background shadows, but they don't matter for she is his, all his.
They kiss for a while, tongues dueling quite pleasantly, before she turns, still in his arms, to watch the sun set over the ocean. Night is falling, but he's not ready to let go. His lips brush her blonde hair. "Shouldn't we go patrolling or something?" she asks.
"Not tonight." His words are almost a plea for he doesn't want this to end, doesn't want her to leave him again, and in reality, he stretches further, his reaching hands trying his best to keep her to him. His left hand grips his emptied bottle of brandy harder until the glass shatters and cuts his flesh. He bleeds, but he pleads only for her.
He's holding tightly to her when she slips out of his arms, sending him falling, falling . . . falling into her grave, and his, both made far, far too early. Rupert awakes alone, aching, and crying for a love he fears not only will never return but was also never his to begin.
