She leans back in his arms, enjoying the feel of his arms around her as she always had since she first let herself truly feel his touch. She still remembers how terrified she'd been of him when she'd first seen him, but she also remembers the intrigue, the silent excitement that had shivered up her spine, and the amazement. Of all the pools he, his friends, and ship could've fallen into in LA alone, somehow, he'd ended up in hers.
She looks around them, trying to pick a star to thank again this night, but she's come to realize that her luck doesn't just come from the stars, especially not Earth's stars. If that had been the case, he would've swiftly tired of her when they'd returned to his home planet. He surely would have tired of her by now, twenty years later, but it isn't just luck that led him to her that day, Val thinks, interlacing her fingers with his.
"Valerie," Mac asks in concern, looking down at his wife, "are you all right?"
She beams up at him, her joy and love shining in her eyes. "Of course," she answers without hesitation. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"I just . . . " He sighs and straightens. His chin rests on the top of her curly head as he looks down at the world around him. "There's so much life down there, so many . . . things that Earth can give you that I can not."
"What?" she asks with a giggle. "Hair spray, pollution, credit cards, and taxes? I don't need those, Mac." She leans back further into his arms and kisses his dimple. "I need you."
He hugs her close to him. "I can not believe," he confesses, "that so many moons have passed since I first met you." He smiles, remembering. "I never would have guessed that an Earth woman would become my wife."
"Are you complaining?" she teases him, but he can not see her grin.
"Of course not. I just . . . Sometimes, I wonder if I had any right asking you to leave all of this for me."
She sits up and turns to face him. "Mac," she declares, taking his handsome face in her hands, "I would never have come if I didn't want to. We've come back to Earth every year on every vacation so I could see my family and friends, but . . . " She shrugs. "My parents are gone, and Candy and Woody are just as happy at home on Jhazzalan as I am."
"What are you saying, Valerie?"
"I'm saying you didn't pull me away from anything I wanted! You've given me everything I ever wanted instead, Mac! And . . . And I know I used to talk about how different Earth and Jhazzalan are and how we had so much more advanced makeup and hair technology here on Earth, altough we don't know that Candy and I have brought everything there."
He grins. "We have become a rather fashionable race."
"You always were. I just needed to shave you to realize it." She laughs and throws herself on top of him. "Oh, Mac!" she breathes, kissing his cheek. "I wish I had the words to tell you what you've done for me, what you've given to me. I used to look up at the night sky here when I was a kid and make all kinds of wishes. I'd see shooting stars and UFOs then and wonder about the people on other planets and so much else, and then when I got older, I . . . I stopped believing. I stopped believing in aliens, in UFOs, in other planets, in make believe . . . I stopped believing my Prince would ever come, and I was so set to settle for Doctor Love when you appeared."
"I am no Prince."
"No," she agrees quickly, shaking her head and grinning widely. "You're way, way better! You're hotter than any man I've ever seen on Earth or on Jhazzalan, fur or no fur, and you're sweeter and kinder and gentler and more wonderful."
He beams. "You are filling my head," he teases her with a phrase she used to use on him.
"With the truth," she says now as he had then. "With only the truth. I love you, Mac. Earth doesn't have anything here I could ever want more than I want and love you." She grabs him again and kisses him firmly, wildly. She could easily allow herself to sink into their kiss and totally make out with him up here on top of their new family ship above all of her old planet, but she's not done yet with telling him how much he means to her or what she's finally come to realize.
Slowly, hesitantly, she lifts her lips from his and gazes up into his eyes. Even after all these years, they somehow still seem more beautiful every time she looks into them. Kevin Costner never had eyes like these. She sighs inwardly but manages to keep her thoughts and prevent herself from swooning. "In fact, I don't think we need to come back here any more. I think I'm finally done with Earth. I'm ready to let go of it. You and your friends and kittens back home are all I want in my future."
"Really?"
She wraps her arms around his neck. "Really," she confirms, pressing her body against his. "I'm ready to go home, Mac, and I'm ready to stay."
His smile is so sweet. "If you ever change your mind -- "
"I won't," she promises. She kisses him again. "You're all I want."
"Then I suppose we should go back inside and reset our course."
"Soon," she agrees, running a finger down his jawline, "but not yet."
His grin widens.
"I'm not done with you yet," she adds, leaning closer down on top of him. Their bodies are pressed so tightly together. Her breath washes over his face. "Did I ever tell you I used to dream about making out with a hot, sexy alien on top of his spaceship?"
He beams. "No," he responds, wrapping his arms back around her and pulling her closer still, "but I do aim to make your every dream a reality."
"You already do," she promises. "I love you."
"I love you, too." Her tongue slips into his hot, eager mouth as he says the last word, and they take each other with relish right there far above her old planet, loving sweetly, serenely, and passionately in on their own ship of paradise.
The airplane pilot will forever wonder where the pink bra came from that slapped onto his windshiled thousands of miles above ground moments later, but Mac and Valerie will never tell. They'll never speak to another person on Earth again for they've gone home to stay in their own home filled with love forever more.
