He glances across the little boat that's rocking with the waves splashing against its sides. The younger man looks worried, the Captain notes, as he watches him trying not to appear to be glancing at him every few seconds. "It'll be fine, boyo. We'll reach shore in plenty o' time. We're halfway there now." Will doesn't speak at first. He just keeps rowing. "Storm's gonna be a beast, but we'll make it."
Will finally meets Jack's gaze. "That's not what I'm thinkin' about."
"Then what's worryin' ye now?" Jack demands. "Ye still worryin' yer bloody head off yer shoulders 'bout that gel? I told ye we'll rescue her an' get ye both back to Port Royal fine and dandy."
The next words Will speaks are so quiet that, though Jack strains to hear them above the rising wind and the rian that's began, he can not. "What?" he questions.
"Nothing."
"Ye din't have th' look o' a man who's worried 'bout nothing, Will Turner. Now tell me what th' 'ell's wrong wit' ye this time."
Jack's not sure if the younger man's next action is daring or just plain stupid, and he gapes slightly, his gold tooth gleaming in the growing shadows, as Will throws his oars into the sea. "What th' 'ell's wrong wit' ye, boy?! Di ye want t' die out here?"
"Maybe," Will tosses back, his word snapping at Jack almost like the waves hitting the boat. He folds his arms cross his chest and looks him squarely in the face. "But what I certainly do not want is to go back there."
Jack stops, cocks his head to one side, causing his bead to jingle, and reexamines the lad's face. "What di ye want, Will?" he finally asks, even then uncertainly.
Will doesn't flinch all the while he's staring back at Jack. "I want you to mean what you said the other night in your cabin."
Jack actually gulps. They haven't spoken about the tryst since it happened, not that they've had time, what with the mutiny and all. "What part?" he finally asks.
"I want you to love me." Jack witnesses the horror that dawns on Will's face as he realizes what he's said. He turns his face quickly into the rising storm, but Jack's laid his oars into the boat and has sprung across it to reach him. Gently, he touches the handsome face that's been haunting his disturbed dreams since they left Port Royal and turns the boy to face him.
"I already di," he whispers. Will sits in silence for a second more, searching Jack's face and eyes for any sign that he may be lying. "Damn it, Will Turner," Jack cries, "an' I'm not lyin'!"
"Pirate," Will returns, still not daring to believe him.
"A Pirate," Jack answers, taking his hand and placing it over his chest, "very much in love with you."
Will needs no further convincing. He throws himself on the older man, arms wrapping around him, hands eagerly caressing, and lips kissing his like he might die in the next second if he can not have Jack's kiss. Jack's tongue slides smoothly into Will's mouth as he holds him like the treasure he is and caresses him back.
But then thunder roars across the darkened sky, splitting them apart and sending Jack scurrying back to his seat. He yanks up one oar as Will grabs the other, and together, they paddle harder for shore. "Guess I shouldn't have thrown the other two away."
"Guess ye shouldn't," Jack agrees, but there's a new twinkle in his eye and gleam in his mouth as he grins wider than he has in years. "Let's get t' shore, lad, an' then I'll show ye what it means t' have a Pirate love ye."
Will's never paddled as hard in all his life.
