He opens the door, and his mouth falls open in shock. He stands there, gawking, until he feels a small pressure against his leg. Only then does he manage to tear his eyes away from the beauty. "Dean, is that all for us?" his little brother asks.
Dean nods empathetically, his wide eyes trailing back to the glistening ham and all the pies. "Yeah, Sammy," he whispers, "it is." He knows the truth. Somebody left all this food. They'll return for it, but he'll be damned if they get it. They deserve a Christmas miracle, even if just this once.
The End
"DEAN! DEAN! YOU GOTTA COME SEE THIS!"
Dean silences the groan rising in his throat as he walks to the window to join his brother. Whatever it is Sammy finds so fascinating is just something else he's already seen, but he obliges the child, lifting the curtain and looking out into the Christmas night.
His jaw drops. So does the curtain, but he lifts it again. He watches the sleigh flying away, hears the laughter, and looks down at his cup. He's had too much of Dad's eggnog already.
"See? I told you! Santa is real!"
Dean empties his cup.
The End
"Stop!" she commands, swatting his hand away from the tray of cookies. "Those aren't for you!"
"We've been through this before, Mary. He's not real, and if he was, -- "
"Just because we haven't seen him doesn't mean he's not real, John Winchester; regardless, it doesn't mean the children have to know! Now hush!"
"Dad? Sammy's asleep."
"Good, Dean. You should be, too." John lifts his oldest son, who's just entered.
"Santa's coming tonight, inn't he?"
"Yeah, son, but only after you fall asleep."
Dean's asleep long before John returns to Mary's side. "Well?" His smile is all the answer she needs.
