He should 've known this would happen. Warnings had always been present in the back of his mind; he'd refused to heed thoughts that sounded like his father. But now the darkness had taken almost everything. He only had one recourse still open to him.

He was hoisted by his own petard. Magic would always be a part of his life but never again through his own choosing. His life was about to become utterly boring; at least, he still had one. "Yes, Father. I'll come."

Three years later, Rupert wonders about boredom as he narrowly escapes another Demon's claws.

"His life was about to become utterly boring" *giggle* So in that way, all the mortal danger is sort of nice. :) No boredom ever again! I like that he wasn't giving up as much as he thought.
