Steve stops in his tracks, blue eyes wide. Words fail him at the sight before him. He's seen many strange things since awakening in this new era, but nothing like the man before him. He knows there's only one God, but he's quickly having to remind himself of that fact now.

Thor looks up, piercing blue eyes blinking through the Summer rain. "Captain?" he asks, and Steve feels his knees go weak. This man is his friend. He's proven his allegiance many times over. Yet, right now, Steve still feels threatened. The blonde, muscular mountain of a man is enough to make him forget all his upbringing, let alone when he's drenched in rain drops that glisten on his rippling muscles.

Steve licks his lips. "Hum . . . I . . . I'm fine . . . Carry on!" He turns and bolts back the way he just came, heedless of any one else watching him and not knowing what to tell Thor. There's only one God, he reminds himself. Only one God, but dear Lord, he should smack himself with his own shield to stop this feeling of wanting to fall to his knees before Thor! There's only one God, but Steve still wants to pay tribute to all of the blonde "God" he just witnessed and what little he didn't see in the rain.

He turns his own head up in the rain, finally stopping running, and gasps for air. His lungs are burning. His insides are burning! He heaves for oxygen, but it doesn't help. Even the rain feels scalding now to his skin. He shakes his head in disbelief and thinks back once more to Thor as thunder rumbles and lightning flashes. There's only one God, but dear Lord, there's no wonder why so many people mistake that being for a God!

Steve shakes his head again and smacks himself, but he still can't rid his mind of the image he just saw or his tongue of the thirst that he fears can only be drenched by licking rain drops off of rippling, golden muscles. He heads to the nearest church, knowing he needs to renew his faith, but every determined step takes him further from the first thing he's truly wanted to worship in this new world. Thor's not a God -- no matter what people say --, but he certainly has his allegiance!

The End
