Sometimes, he just likes to stand and watch her. She's still the fairest in the land after all these years, but unlike so many other women they've both known, her beauty is far from being merely skin deep. Indeed, she shines far more from inside her spirit and heart than her physical beauty will ever shine. The legends are right. Her skin is as white as snow, her hair as dark as night. Her flesh is like fine porcelain, whose fine scars only the two of them know. And yet, her heart's still far more beautiful than her body.
She catches him watching her one day, and he realizes he must have some kind of goofy smile on his face from the way she looks at him. Her head tilted slightly to one side, Snow asks, "What?"
He shakes his head at first, but he can tell from the expression in her beautiful eyes that she's not going to let him get away without giving her a truthful answer. "You're so beautiful. You remind me of my mother sometimes." He stops, but it's too late. The admission's out.
Something passes through her eyes. Her smile falters for just a moment. "Sweetheart," she says with patience, "I know that's meant to be an honor -- your mother was a wonderful woman and I know you miss her as much as I miss my father --, but it's not exactly what every girl wants to hear."
"I know," he says, bowing his head a little, "but it's true. She was the most beautiful and kindest woman I'd ever known until I met you. She taught me that true beauty is to be found inside one's soul, not on the outside. People have literally written poems about how beautiful you are," he continues, crossing the room and taking her hands in his, "but they don't know how incredibly beautiful you really are until they meet you. As beautiful as your outside is, Snow, your true beauty outshines your body so much it literally takes my breath away."
She chuckles softly. "I was just feeding our son."
"Yes," he acknowledges gently, "but while I was watching you do that, I was remembering so many of the other kindnesses I've seen you grant others. Just yesterday, that woman forgot her purse at Granny's, and you paid for her meal. Last week, you found that bird with the broken wing and even managed to enlist Regina's aid in healing her magically."
"I did have some help on that one."
"Henry would have never seen that bird, darling, if you hadn't saved it first."
She smiles, her eyes shining brightly as she gazes into her husband's. She shakes her head slowly in amazement. "I may be beautiful," she acknowledges, though she's never really thought much of her own beauty, "but after all these years, my love, you're still as charming as ever."
He breaks into a wide grin. She leans forward and kisses him, and he knows again he's the luckiest man, Prince or not, charming or not, in all the land because she chooses to love him.
