The boy's under her hood again. His hands aren't as strong or skillful as his father's, but he'd still feel good if he'd stop being so clumsy. He's too focused on wondering why his father's not back yet and how he's going to continue taking care of Sammy alone.

Girls come down the sidewalk. Dean's head jerks up, slamming against her hood. The funnel drops as he's grinning like an idiot at those kids. Oil splashes his face; he cusses. He thinks it's a mistake, but he'll learn he's not alone. And he'll learn to take care of her, too.
