They had been fighting all day when she suddenly came to her in the heat of the night. Rose and Sophia were sound asleep for now, but they would awaken easily and, if they ever discovered the truth about Blanche's feelings for Dorothy, they would never understand. No one would ever understand except for Dorothy herself, Blanche knew. They'd never spoken about how they really felt, but Blanche had always known when she made that unmistakable, longing impression on some one. Dorothy wanted her. She had since she'd moved in with her, and Blanche, though she'd tried every trick in her book of denying love, wanted her as well.
She came to her in the still of the night, opened her door, and stepped uncalled into her bedroom. "Dorothy?" she called until Dorothy finally rolled over and looked at her through bleary, tear-streaked eyes.
"Blanche?" Dorothy glanced at her clock. "It's three in the morning! What do you want?"
She wanted her, but for the first time in her life, Blanche didn't have the words to make her confession. She loved her, and she couldn't stand fighting with her over the unspoken sexual desire between them for even one more moment. She opened her robe and let it fall to the floor, revealing all her natural beauty to her love.
"B-Blanche?" Dorothy's voice shook.
"Dorothy." They gazed into one another's eyes and understood. Dorothy met her with open arms and heart, and they didn't argue for the rest of the night.
