As I mentioned, her local VA doctor was able to get us an appointment with the larger podiatry department in Montgomery two days ago. Here's a few things we know at this point:
There's no gangrene, thank God!!
We couldn't see the hole, because it was UNDERNEATH the callous. It was only found after the local doctor cut away most of the callous.
It's not deep. It should be able to heal as long as she stays off of it and we keep doing the medications/dressing/care as prescribed, and her boss is actually working with her (I just pray she actually stays off her foot as she's supposed to while at work and when I can't watch her), but her healing tends to be slow. She's what she calls borderline diabetic, and as those of us with sugar know, most doctors say there really isn't such a thing as borderline diabetic.
So things are a lot better than they could have been, but we definitely still need y'all's prayers, well wishes, etc. Thank you all for your love and concern, for your prayers and good wishes, and all you're doing to help us pull through. <3 y'all!
